In accordance with the Listed Companies (Code of Corporate Governance) Regulations 2019 and the Public Sector Companies (Corporate Governance) Rules, 2013 companies are required to make appropriate arrangements to conduct orientation and training courses for their directors to acquaint them with their duties and responsibilities and enable them to effectively manage the affairs of listed companies on behalf of the shareholders.
Directors’ Training Program is the result of the conscious efforts of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) to facilitate and encourage the compliance of the Code of Corporate Governance Regulations 2019.
ICAP launched the Directors’ Training Program (DTP) in Lahore in January 2013 after getting the approval from the Securities & Exchange Commission in Pakistan (SECP). ICAP DTP is a Pakistan specific course that also aims to create familiarity with global principles of corporate governance. The five-day certificate course is conducted in two sessions of three & two days and covers the broader perspectives and principles of corporate governance, applicable laws, financial and strategic management, reporting and communications.
DTP adopts the approach of learning through experience, interactions with peers and moderated group discussion. The program is an amalgamation of theoretical knowledge, application of skills and exercising value added judgment.
Through DTP, ICAP continues to support SECP’s drive to improve and reinforce the corporate governance in adding value to the businesses in Pakistan. ICAP also launched the Directors’ Orientation Training Program (DOTP) for the Public Sector under the PSC Rules 2013 that speaks volume of the Institute’s culture to promote corporate governance in Pakistan.
